I thought my troubles were behind me due to some update that happened that I wasn't aware of. In the past three days I no longer had to reboot my desktop computer at least twice to get it to become stable. I've been using IBM computers since the s and I've never had this much trouble thought the edition of Windows was nothing to crow about. My Windows 10 experience has been a computer nightmare which has gone on for months now. Please let me know if you know how to re-enable Windows Update. Suspect the problem is with Windows update, so have not yet tried renaming and checking the software distribution. Ran two virus scans Malware Bites and Avaast two days ago, but will update the definitions and re-do them in case some malware is preventing Windows from updating something that would interfere with the malware. Not sure how that could have disabled Windows Update I don't recall doing it on purpose, I just waited a few days to re-install the updates, but it's the only thing I can think of that is related. I had some trouble a few months ago with a glitchy update that disabled my wifi connection, so had to do a system restore until the glitch was fixed. Right clicking shows a menu with "start, stop, pause, resume" all grayed out. Windows Update has a blank in the status column, and "disabled" in the startup type column. If the issue persists, r ename software distribution and check.
